Built-In Display Door
During the restoration, a small built-in cupboard was placed in the wall to reveal....(see next photo)
Inside of the built-in display cupboard are the original walls to the outside of the mansion built in 1847.

The upstairs of the mansion has several bedrooms, most with their own bathroom, thanks to the restoration.
In the early 1990s, Katharine Van Meier passed away but created a legacy by establishing the Arcola Mills Historic Foundation for the purpose of preserving the property. A group of volunteers organized and raised funds to restore what then was a run-down mansion and ultimately other parts of the property.
A significant portion of the mansion restoration and updating was completed by the early 2000s.
