Educate. Preserve. Renew.

Dear Friend of Arcola,
From the moment you pass through the gates of Arcola, you become a part of the story. Established as a sawmill in the mid 1800’s by brothers John and Martin Mower, a community of commerce known as Arcola Mills sprang up on the banks of the St. Croix River.

Long after the Mower family and the inhabitants of that early community were gone, Dr. Henry Van Meier and his wife, Katherine, of Stillwater, took possession of the Greek revival style mansion and the amazing river property. Over the next fifty years, they too established a community with cabins and buildings moved onto the property. Each summer those cabins housed writers and artists, thinkers and entertainers – enjoying diversity, freedom and camraderie.

Due to the generosity of Katherine Van Meier, the community of Arcola continues today. Established as a nonprofit organization in 1997, Arcola is a place where artists, historians, evironmentalists and those seeking balance and meaning come to learn and experience the joy of community.

Here is where YOU enter the Arcola story. You can be part of the community of those who know how vital a place like Arcola Mills is in today’s world. Please consider joining this exceptional community by giving generously with an end-of-year donation. Also, consider becoming an active member of the Arcola community. Participate in activities and events, stop by an Open House, become a volunteer, or just visit to feel the renewed passion and excitement in the air. Become a part of the story.

Thank you.
